I am an avid user of C++ and am in the camp of keeping software up-to-date with new language features as it makes sense to do so. Having worked with legacy codebases, I can also understand why one would not want to do that.
I enjoy playing crafting, creative and exploration games such as Minecraft, Factorio, Satisfactory, Timberborn and others. There is one game, or rather a set of games, that got me into programming and I continue to enjoy them to this day. That is Pokémon.
I am involved in a FIRST Robotics FRC high school team as a programming mentor. Each year we are given a new game with new rules and challenges to overcome and each year have to design, build, wire and program a new robot to compete with other robots over the challenges. Part of the challenge is autonomous and part is controlled by human drivers, but it almost always comes with physical altercations with opposing teams. Robots must be designed to accomplish the given tasks, built to withstand abuse and programmed to handle edge cases including damaged components.
